Don't miss on the opportunity to develop your exam technique so that you can prepare yourself for the real test day experience!

Free IELTS Pre-testing will:

• give you an opportunity to practice your English skills free of cost

• give you an experience of test conditions

• give you an indication of your language ability according to IELTS standards

• help you see where to focus when you prepare for a real IELTS test in future.

You will receive information about your performance six weeks after you attend the session. This will be emailed to you via the same email address used to register. You can also pick up your results in person. Please note that test scores cannot be used as official IELTS test results.

Who can take an IELTS pre-test?

Anyone who is planning to register for an IELTS test with the British Council.

How much does the IELTS pre-test cost?

It is free of cost.

What are the benefits of taking an IELTS pre-test?

- Pre-testing provides you with valuable experience, under test conditions

- Find out what an IELTS test is like, and the types of questions that are asked

- Pre-test scores can help you focus on weaknesses and choose a test date

What modules of IELTS are available as pre-tests?

  • The Listening pretest (about 45 minutes)
  • The Reading pretest (1 hour 15 minutes)
  • No Writing pretests available this time.

*Not all tests may be available each session. Speaking tests are not part of pretesting.

What kind of results will I get?

- You will receive a raw score (the number of correct answers) for both Listening and Reading. You will not be given an IELTS Band Score, but the raw score will give you some idea of your ability in these skills. (Your teacher may be able to calculate an equivalent Band Score for your raw score, but this will be very approximate and cannot be used as an official IELTS result.)

- For the Writing pre-test, you will receive a Band Score, but again this cannot be used as an official IELTS result.

How and when will I get my results?

- Your results will be sent to you via email directly from the test centre. If you registered though an agency you may get your results from them

- Results will be ready 6 weeks after you attend the pre-test session

Where will be the pre-test location?

More information will be sent to you after you’ve registered for the IELTS pre-test
