You can register for IELTS quickly and easily through our Online Registration Service.

Before you enter your personal details, please check that you are using our secure online registration system. You can do this by making sure the website address starts with “https://”. In addition fraudulent sites may use incorrect spellings in the website address, so check that “British Council” is spelt correctly.

To register, simply follow our eight steps below: 

1. Read the information for candidates

2. Decide which version of the test is right for you

There are two versions of the IELTS test:

IELTS Academic
IELTS General Training

3. Check the IELTS test dates

Use our Online Registration System to find up-to-date information about test dates and availability.

Please note: Your Listening, Reading and Writing test will be completed on the same day. Your Speaking test may be offered on the same day, or up to a week before or after your main test day. You will receive notification in advance by email and/or sms if your Speaking test is on a different day to your main test day.

4. Register online 

Use our Online Registration System to book your place on the test.

5. Prepare and send your documents  

Please make sure you send us ALL of the following documents when you register for your test:

  • Your valid identification document (Passport or valid national ID card-for Saudi nationals only) 
  • Your passport or Iqama (Non-Saudi nationals Only)

The Passport should be valid on the day of the test. Candidate with invalid passport on the day of the test will not be allowed to take the exam and no refund or transfer will be given. Please note that you will not be allowed to enter exam hall without the original ID that you used during your registration. You must bring the same original ID to your IELTS written and speaking test.

6. Choose your payment method

The cost of sitting a test is SAR 1,100 . You can pay for your test in one of the following ways:

Online 

  • You can pay online with Visa or MasterCard. Follow the instructions for online payment on our IELTS online registration website.

Bank Deposit/Transfer

  • Directly deposit the fee at your nearest SABB branch
  • Online direct bank transfer from your account to the British Council’s account. In this case you need to add the British Council as a beneficiary for your transfer.

Cash

  • We accept cash payments at all British Council centres in KSA.

Draft cheque

  • You may also pay for your test by draft cheque from a local Saudi bank made payable to 'The British Council'.

Please note that we cannot accept personal cheques or payment directly into a British Council bank account.

 7.  Complete your registration

We need to receive all documents including your completed online application within five working days of your online registration. Unfortunately, if we do not receive documents within five working days your application will be cancelled.  

We cannot process incomplete applications, so please make sure you have sent us all the necessary information.

You may bring the documents to the British Council in person, or send them by courier.

Please do not send cash by courier. Please follow the instructions below, according to your payment method.

If you have paid the IELTS test fee online (credit card):

Please submit the following documents:

  • a copy of the email 'IELTS Application Summary and Payment Confirmation'.
  • copy of identity document.

Please read the requirements for supporting documents below carefully.

If you do not provide the correct supporting documents within five working days of your payment, your application will be rejected and your test fee will be partially refunded (an administration charge of SAR 210 will be deducted).

If you have not yet paid the IELTS test fee:

Please submit the following documents and payment:

  • a copy of the email 'IELTS Application Summary'.
  • copy of identity document.

Please read the requirements for supporting documents below carefully.

If you do not provide the correct supporting documents and payment within FIVE WORKING DAYS OF COMPLETING YOUR APPLICATION, YOUR APPLICATION WILL BE REJECTED.

Confirmation of your test

When the British Council receives your payment, you will receive another email confirming your registration. 

Copies of your results

If you would like your results to be sent to universities or other educational institutions, please enter the relevant addresses in the appropriate fields on the online registration form. We can issue a maximum of five copies per student.

8. After you register

  • After registering you will receive an automatic email containing your access codes to our free online resources: Road to IELTS 
  • We will send you a confirmation email as soon as you complete your online registration giving you the start time of your test and the venue address.

Special arrangements 

IELTS is designed to be a fair test and your English language ability will be assessed objectively, regardless of any special needs that you may have. We can help you with any special arrangements you require for your test. Please contact us three months in advance of your test date to find out how you can apply for special arrangements.

Refunds 

If you want to request a refund, please read our refund policy prior to making a request. If you want to do this, please complete and submit a request for refund form along with the supporting evidence. We will need to receive your request and supporting evidence at least five weeks before the test date. 

Test day transfers 

If you want to transfer to a different test date, you need to notify us at least five weeks prior to the test session you have registered for. To do this, please complete and submit a Request for Transfer Form.
